Observational and genetic evidence disagree on the association between loneliness and risk of multiple diseases

Published in Nat Hum Behav, 2024

Loneliness-the subjective experience of social disconnection-is now widely regarded as a health risk factor. However, whether the associations between loneliness and multiple diseases are consistent with causal effects remains largely unexplored. Here we combined behavioural, genetic and hospitalization data from the UK Biobank to examine the associations of loneliness with a wide range of non-overlapping diseases.

Social isolation, loneliness, and risk of microvascular complications among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Published in Am J Kidney Dis, 2024

Social disconnection has been associated with poor cardiometabolic health. Accelerometer-measured physical activity, sedentary behavior, and incidence of macrovascular and microvascular events in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetes

Published in J Sport Health Sci, 2024

Physical activity (PA) is considered beneficial for lowering cardiovascular risks following type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes, but existing evidence relies mainly on self-reported measurements. We aimed to describe the intensity-specific dose-response associations of PA and sedentary behavior (SB) with macrovascular and microvascular events among individuals with T2DM and prediabetes.
